The Z9GT is the sort of car that makes you look twice. Low, long and distinctly unlike the procession of upright electric SUVs, it gives Denza a useful opening: a car with a shape you might remember before you learn the badge.
A shooting brake is an appealing idea for an electric grand tourer. There is room for luggage and a little everyday usefulness, without giving up the sense that the car was designed for the person behind the wheel. That is the promise. We have not driven it.
Denza’s Australian page describes an all-electric, tri-motor car and currently quotes approximately 850 kW, 0–100 km/h in 2.7 seconds and 820 km of CLTC range. Treat those as manufacturer claims. CLTC is not WLTP, and neither figure tells you exactly how far you will travel on an Australian highway.
The charging claim is equally ambitious: approximately nine minutes from 10 to 97 per cent. The useful question is where an Australian owner could reproduce it. Charger output, vehicle specification and battery conditions will matter.
Our interest is in the whole car: the ride, steering, cabin quality, software and support behind that unfamiliar badge. Power is relatively easy to admire on a page. A convincing luxury ownership experience takes more work.
Our view: this is a welcome attempt to make the electric luxury car more interesting. Australian pricing and refinement will decide whether that ambition becomes a compelling purchase. For now, the Z9GT earns a place on the watchlist.
