BMW M5
SEDAN / TOURING

WATT MATTERS?
The latest M5 is a plug-in hybrid, but nobody would call it an exercise in restraint. Its 535kW combined output makes the electric hardware as much about performance as fuel savings.
THE BASICS
Offered as a sedan and Touring, the M5 combines a rechargeable battery with a high-performance petrol drivetrain and all-wheel drive. Its claimed electric-only range is up to 65km WLTP, useful for shorter journeys if it is regularly charged.

THE WATTCAR TAKE
The plug makes the M5 more versatile, not necessarily more sensible. This is a car for people who want extraordinary performance and are prepared to accept the weight, complexity and cost that come with it.
