WATT MATTERS?

The CX-80 PHEV gives Mazda's larger family SUV a rechargeable battery and the option of electric local journeys. Its real purpose is carrying people comfortably, not chasing efficiency records.

THE BASICS

Australian P50e Touring, GT and Azami grades have seven seats. The separately priced Azami SP configuration has six seats with second-row captain chairs. The 17.8 kWh battery supports a 65 km electric claim under Australian Design Rule (ADR) 81/02.

THE WATTCAR TAKE

For families who regularly use the extra seats, the CX-80 PHEV could be a sensible compromise. The question is how much electric driving remains practical when the car is full.
